WOOD SR., JARRELL WAYNE, age 67 of Cedartown, GA and Birmingham, AL passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, December 15, 2009 in Cedartown.
He was born in Siluria, AL and attended Thompson High School in Alabaster, AL. Mr. Wood was preceded in death by his parents, Oliver and Annie Lee Smith Wood and brother, Sonny Wood. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served in the Vietnam War and was of the Baptist Faith. He worked in the automotive industry most of his adult life. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He was an active member and past commander of Adams-Coker-Covington-Waters American Legion Post #52 in Rome, GA. He was also a member of the Dallas Masonic Lodge #182, F&A.M. He was also very active in assisting veterans with obtaining benefits.
Survivors include his son, Wayne Wood Jr. (Julie) of Birmingham, AL, a daughter, Amy Wood Evans (Kenny) of Gardendale, AL, former wife, Gaile C. Wood of Mt. Olive, AL, and five grandchildren, Sydney Evans, Taylor Wood, Megan Evans, Blake Wood, and Adam Wood.
Funeral services for Mr. Wood will be held this (Friday) afternoon, December 18th, 2009 at 2 o'clock from the Parkview Chapel of Fred Talley's Funeral Home with Rev. Wendell Woodfin and Dr. Bill Dempsey officiating with interment to follow in East View Cemetery with Brown-Wright American Legion Post 12 Honor Guard conducting military graveside rites.
Visitation will be held this (Friday) December 18, 2009 from 12:00 pm until the funeral hour at 2:00 pm at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel in Rome, GA.
The following will serve as active pallbearers, Kenneth Evans, Ken Waters, Gerald Carroll, Sam Samuels, Jeff Bradshaw and Alan Smith.
