Janice Ruth Pollack, passed away on August 26, 2023, at the Gardens of Rome Nursing & Rehab. She was a remarkable individual who touched the lives of many during her time on this earth. Janice was born on March 24, 1930, in the charming town of New Bedford, Massachusetts. She was the daughter of Barnard and Lillian Cohen Schatz. From an early age, Janice exhibited a zest for life and a compassionate nature that would remain with her throughout her years.
In her professional life, Janice embarked on a career with the United States Postal Service that spanned several decades. Starting as a clerk, she worked diligently and demonstrated exceptional dedication to her work. Through her unwavering commitment and tireless efforts, Janice rose through the ranks to become the Postmaster. Her hard work and leadership qualities earned her the respect and admiration of her colleagues. Beyond her professional achievements, it was Janice's warmth and welcoming nature that truly endeared her to those around her. She had an innate ability to put others at ease, making everyone feel valued and appreciated in her presence. Janice possessed a great sense of humor that brightened even the darkest days and brought solace to those who needed it most.
Janice had a love for life and all its wonders. She found joy in traveling and exploring new places, always eager to immerse herself in different cultures. She had an artistic soul and found solace in activities such as antiquing, coloring, drawing, and reading. Whether it was sketching breathtaking landscapes or losing herself in the pages of a cherished book, Janice's creative pursuits were outlets for self-expression and relaxation. Janice's love extended beyond her hobbies; it encompassed her family and friends whom she cherished dearly. She shared a lifetime with her beloved wife, Marj Rawls. Together, they created a home filled with love, laughter, and shared dreams.
Janice was also blessed with three children who brought immeasurable joy to her life. Her son, David Pollack and his wife Lynelle; son, Harris Pollack and his wife Kelley, and a daughter, Barbara Pollack; sisters, Sandy Axelrod and Rose Linda Hedler; Janice was also blessed to have grandchildren, Rachael Smith and her husband Timothy; Mitchell Pollack and his wife Christie; and a great-grandson, Eli Smith. She also had several nieces, nephews, and friends who held a special place in her heart.
Janice Ruth Pollack will forever be remembered as an incredible woman who illuminated the lives of those around her. Her kindness knew no bounds, and her positivity inspired all who had the privilege of knowing her. Though she has left us physically, Janice's spirit will continue to shine brightly through the memories we hold dear.
To honor Janice's wishes she will be cremated, and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
