James Hoyt Ray, age 86, of #23 Tremont Drive, Silver Creek, GA., died Tuesday morning, June 22nd, 2010 at the residence.
A native of Farrell, Alabama, Mr. Ray was born on April 17th, 1924, the son of the late Clem and Thelma Nixon Ray. He had spent the greater part of his life in Floyd County and was a World War II veteran having served in the United States Army. Mr. Ray attended Sunny Hill Baptist Church and was of the Baptist Faith. He was a 57 year member of the Oostanaula Masonic Lodge #113 F&AM and was a member the low 12 Club. Mr. Ray loved to fish, play golf and travel with his family whom he loved very much. Mr. Ray loved traveling with his wife, Fannie and friends, Martha and Roy Johnson to Jekyll Island. Prior to his retirement Mr. Ray was owner and operator of Ray's Wholesale Meat of Rome and was preceded in death by a son, James Edward "Eddie" Ray in 2001.
Survivors include his wife, Fannie Isbell Ray to whom he was married on November 15th, 1944; 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Kenneth Ray and his wife, Debbie of Dallas, Georgia and Larry Ray and his wife, Teresa of Rome; 5 grandchildren, Beth Wilkins, Patrick Ray, Chris Ray, Marla Poissant and Jonathan Ray and 6 great-grandchildren also survive as 2 sisters, Bonnie Searles and her husband Alford of Rome and Myrtle Oswalt of Rome. Nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for James Hoyt Ray will be held on Friday morning, June 25th, 2010 at 11 o'clock from the Parkview Chapel of Fred Talley's Funeral Home with the Rev. Larry Wilkins, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens with Oostanaula Masonic Lodge #113 F&AM conducting Masonic graveside rites.
Mr. Ray will remain at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel where the family will receive friends this (Thursday) evening from 7 until 9 o'clock.
The following will serve as active pallbearers, Patrick Ray, Dean Oswalt, Mark Tate, Lewis Tate, Jonathan Ray and Chris Ray.
