James H. "Jimmy" Shores, Jr. age 67, of Tuscaloosa, Ala. and a former resident of Rome passed away on Thursday afternoon, April 7th, 2011 at the University of Alabama Medical Center in Birmingham, Ala.
A native of Floyd County, Mr. Shores was born on March 1st, 1944, the son of the late James Herschel Shores, Sr. and the late Helen Bolt Shores. He attended Elm Street Elementary School, was a 1962 graduate of West Rome High School and a graduate of the University of Georgia. Mr. Shores was a member West Rome Baptist Church and prior to his retirement was associated with the Department of Agriculture as a Federal Forrester in timber management. Jimmy had been a resident of Tuscaloosa, Alabama since 1994 and prior to that time had resided in Arizona for 20 years. Mr. Shores was a Vietnam veteran having served for 8 years in the United States Air Force where he attained the rank of Captain and 12 plus years in the Air National Guard in Arizona having attained the rank of Major.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Ruth Sullens Shores to whom he was married on September 24th, 1968; 2 sons, Doug Shores of Huntsville, Ala. and Scott Shores of Rome; 2 grandchildren, Camryn Shores and James Shores, 1sister, Melanie Whatley of Murphy, N.C.; 1 brother, John Shores of Fayetteville, Ark. Nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Mr. Shores will be held on Monday afternoon, April 11th, 2011 at 1 o'clock from the Parkview Chapel of Fred Talley's Funeral Home with Rev. Jason Willis officiating. Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens, Rome, GA. with the Veterans' Alliance Honor Guard of North Georgia conducting military graveside rites.
Mr. Shores will remain at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel where the family will receive friends this (Sunday) evening from 5 until 7 o'clock p.m. At other hours they will be at the home of a son, Scott Shores at #210 Billy Pyle Road, Rome, GA.
The following will serve as active pallbearers, Joshua Shores, Roderick Bareddo, Ronnie Bentley, David Henderson, Jason Elzey, Nathan Elzey, Jerome Sullens and Nelson Sullens.
