James Clifford "Cliff" Young, age 82, of #800 North Fifth Avenue, apt. 213, Rome, died suddenly Sunday afternoon, September 24th, 2006, while convalescing at the home of his daughter, Gail Y. Poole, at #13 Berkshire Drive, Rome.
Mr. Young was born in Lynch, Kentucky on March 28th, 1924, the son of the late Henry and Sarah Young. He had spent the greater part of his life in Floyd County and was a devoted member for many years of the Hopewell Baptist Church of Rome where he was names song director due to his love of music. For a number of years Mr. Young was associated with Celanese and prior to his retirement was associated with the City of Rome. Mr. Young was an avid baseball fan and took much pleasure in watching many games on his TV and another favorite was his little red truck which he enjoyed driving and added much to his sense of independence. Mr. Young was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Fern Young and LaRue Thomason and by a son-in-law, James Poole in 1995. Mr. Young was married in 1954 to Dorothy Irene Twilley Young who preceded him in death on April 24th, 1995.
Survivors include his beloved daughter, Gail Y. Poole of Rome; 2 brothers, Lynn (Barbara) Young of Miamisburg, Ohio and Coleman (JoAnn) Young of Middletown, Ohio; 3 sisters, Gladys McDaniel of Miamisburg, Ohio, Marie (Joe) Capaccio and Faye Woods both of Middletown, Ohio. Also surviving are many beloved nieces and nephews and a special friend, Blanche Holmes, and "Family friends", Joan Gentry, Morgan Gentry, Sandy and Gladys Atkins, Don Atkins and Hilda Moore.
Funeral services for Mr. Young will be on Wednesday afternoon, September 27th, 2006, at 2 o'clock from the Parkview Chapel of Fred Talley's Funeral Home with the Rev. Eugene "Pap"' Agan and the Rev. Harold Gilbert officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot of the Old Nazareth Baptist Church cemetery, located in the McCord Crossroads Community near Forney, Alabama.
The following will serve as active pallbearers, Joe Hall, Rick Lam, Bob Poole, Lynn "Skeeter" Young, Sanders J. Atkins and Gene Evans and are requested to meet at the funeral home on Wednesday afternoon by 1:30.
Mr. Young will remain at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel where the family will receive friends this (Tuesday) evening from 6 until 8 o'clock. At other hours they will be at the home of the daughter, Gail Y. Poole, 13 Berkshire Drive, Rome.
In lieu of flowers, the family, respectfully, asks that contributions be made to the Hopewell Baptist Church, c/o Gene Evans, 642 Davis Road, Cedartown, GA. 30125.
