Jack's education at Western Carolina University provided him with a strong foundation that contributed to his professional and personal life. Honoring his commitment to service, Jack was a veteran of the United States Army, from which he was honorably discharged. This aspect of his life marked not only a significant chapter but also shaped his values of discipline and integrity.
With a joyous spirit, Jack shared a profound love for music, demonstrating his talents as an excellent guitar and banjo player. His musical skills were a source of enjoyment not only for himself but also for those who had the pleasure of hearing him play.
Jack was particularly fond of animals, especially his dogs, and he found great joy in their companionship. He is survived by his beloved wife of 39 years, Janice Dollar Penland, of Cedartown; his sons, Tim Lumpkin and his wife, Ellen, of Bowdon, Georgia, and Dan Lumpkin of Rockmart, Georgia; grandchildren, Chris, Melissa, Julie, Reba, Andrew, Daniel; great grandchildren, Ethan, Alex, and Addison who undoubtedly brought him immense pride and happiness. Additionally, he leaves behind his cherished dogs, Peaches, Joe, and Tiny Butt, who were constant companions through his life's journey.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Hazel Keener Penland. Jack's memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him as they hold on to the moments spent with him, ensuring that his legacy lives on.
