Irene Walters

Mrs. Irene Young Walters, age 90, of #4 Robinson Avenue, Rome, passed away on Saturday morning, February 26th, 2011 at a Rome hospital.

Mrs. Walters was born on February 15, 1921, the daughter of the late Edgar Young and Arrie Millican Young. She had been a resident of Rome and Floyd County for the greater part of her life and was a homemaker. Mrs. Walters was a member of the Lakeview Baptist Church. She was married on December 24, 1940 to Mr. Robert P. Walters who preceded her in death in March of 1997. Also preceding her in death was a son, Leonard Walters (February 27, 2009), two brothers, J.D. Young and Ray Young, and a sister, Hazel Boyd.

Mrs. Walters is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Dorothy Evelyn Bragg and Sylvia Jean and R.L. Ozment, all of Rome; three grandchildren, Chris (Cindy) Bragg, Jeff (Sandra) Ozment and Ken Ozment; five great-grandchildren, Zach Bragg, Nash Bragg, Taylor Ozment, Tory Ozment and Tatum Ozment; one sister, Louise Little of Rome. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Mrs. Walters will be held this (Monday) afternoon, February 28th, 2011 at 3 o'clock in the Parkview Chapel of Fred Talley's Funeral Home with Rev. Calvin "Skider" Chatham officiating. Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Walter will remain at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel where the family will receive friends 1 p.m. until the funeral hour.

Pallbearers are asked to meet at the funeral home by 2:30 p.m. and include Chris Bragg, Jeff Ozment, Ken Ozment, Zach Bragg, Ray Fowler and Richard Didrick.

Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Lakeview Baptist Church, 80 Salem Drive, NW, Rome Georgia 30165.
