Irene Evelyn Hughes

Irene Evelyn Minich Hughes, age 89, of Riverwood Senior Living, formerly of North Elm Street, Rome, Georgia passed away on Tuesday morning, November 12, 2013.

Mrs. Hughes was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana on February 2, 1924, the daughter of the late Edward Minich and the late Ida Grotrian Minich of Monroeville, IN. She was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Minich on November 26, 1989, by a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Ivan Barbara Minich on November 18, 2007 and by a niece, Sandra K. Beucler on December 23, 2011.

She retired in 1986 from Robins Air Force Base in Warner Robins, GA. after working there for 28 years as a systems manager in Electonic Warfare. Before that she was employed at Shelby Air Force Base in Shelby, Ohio until its closing in 1958. She was associated for a short time at Internal Harvester in Fort Wayne, Indiana. In 2000 Irene moved to Rome to be close to her only daughter and grandchildren. Irene was a member of Saint Mary's Catholic Church, New Romans Club, 7 Hills Investment Club, AARP and NARFE.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Sheryl and Dale Camp of Armuchee; a brother, Ivan Minich of Leo, Indiana; three grandchildren, Travis Camp of Centre, AL., Kristi Camp Bell of Rome and Kimberly Camp Brown and her husband, Jon of Rome; Five great-grandchildren also survive, Dillan Jones of Cave Springs, Sam and Colin Bell, Dalton and Haiden Brown of Armuchee, GA. Nieces and nephews also survive.

The family would like to thank the staff of Palliative Care at Floyd Hospital; a great team of doctors and nurses. A special thanks to her caregivers, Beatrice Griffin, Renee Mitchell and Tammy Dupree, who made her last months of her life enjoyable.

Graveside and interment services for Irene Evelyn Minich Hughes will held on Saturday afternoon, November 16, 2013 at 2 o'clock at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens with Deacon Stuart Neslin officiating. Interment will follow in the Oaknoll Memorial Gardens in Rome, GA.

A Rosary and Wake Service for Irene Evelyn Minich Hughes will be held on Friday evening, November 15, 2013 at 6 o'clock at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel Funeral Home with Deacon Stuart Neslin. Following the Rosary and Wake Service the family will receive friends at the funeral home until 8 o'clock.
