Howard Wesley Atkins, age 75, of #22 Simon Drive, NE, Rome, (The Coosa Community) died Tuesday evening, March 3rd, 2009 at a local hospital.
A native of Floyd County, Mr. Atkins was born on September 15th, 1933, the son of the late Fred H. and Louise Byars Atkins. He was a veteran of the United States Army and was of the Baptist Faith. Mr. Atkins was a member of the Shanklin-Attawy Post #5 American Legion and prior to his retirement was associated with Terhune Electric as an electrican. Mr. Atkins was preceded in death by a brother, J.W. Atkins.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Nelson Atkins to whom he was married on June 27th, 1992, 3 sons, Wesley Atkins of Cedartown, GA., Logan Atkins and his wife, Linda of Rosedale and Tim Atkins and his wife, Marqueita of Coosa. 7 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren also survive as do a sister, Elice Trotter and her husband, Wayne of Rome and a brother, Larry Atkins and his wife, Pam of Rome. Nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Howard Wesley Atkins will be held on Saturday afternoon, March 7th, 2009 at 2 o'clock from the Parkview Chapel of Fred Talley's Funeral Home with the Rev. Jerry Dudley officiating. Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens with Shanklin-Attaway Post #5 Honor Guard conducting military graveside rites.
Howard Wesley Atkins will remain at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel where the family will receive friends on Saturday from 12 o'clock noon until the funeral hour. At other hours they will be at the residence.
The following will serve as active pallbearers, Steve Satcher, Meryl Marable, Wayne Trotter, Don Trammell, Roy Milam and Buddy Andrews.
