Horace Porter Dykes, Sr

Horace P. Dykes, Sr. age 87, of West Club Drive, Atlanta, and a former Roman, died Tuesday morning, March 6th, 2007, at his residence in Atlanta.
A native of Richton, Mississippi, Mr. Dykes was born on March 14th, 1919, the son of the late Jefferson H. and Pearlie Jane Edwards Dykes. Mr. Dykes was a retired Textile Engineer, was a graduate of Georgia Tech and for many years Mr. Dykes was associated with the Celanese Corp. and prior to his retirement was associated with Integrated Products. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Army with the 7th Calvary Division. Mr. Dykes was a member of the Brookhaven United Methodist Church in Atlanta, was a member of the Georgia Tech Alumni, a member of Chamblee Masonic Lodge #444 and the American Legion. For a period of time Mr. Dykes and his late wife, Juanita, resided in Crystal River, Florida prior to moving to Atlanta in 1996. While residents of Crystal River, Florida, Mr. & Mrs. Dykes were members of the Crystal River United Methodist Church and were former members of the First United Methodist Church of Rome. Mr. Dykes was married on February 24th, 1944, to Juanita Wilkens Dykes, who preceded him in death on June 3rd, 2006.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Charles Wall of LaFayette, Ind.; a son and daughter-in-law, Bucky and Judy Dykes of Atlanta, Ga.; 3 grandchildren, Charles Wall, III., Jane Wall Coley and Harrison Porter Dykes, 3 great-grandchildren. Nieces and nephews also survives.
Funeral services for Mr. Dykes will be held on Saturday morning, March 10th, 2007, at 11 o'clock from the Parkview Chapel of Fred Talley's Funeral Home with the Rev. Larry Caywood officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot of East View Cemetery with Shanklin-Attaway Post #5 Honor Guard conducting military graveside rites.
Mr. Dykes will remain at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel where the family will receive friends on Saturday morning from 10 o'clock until the funeral hour.
