Herbert Lee Gibson, Jr. age 74, of Rome, GA passed away peacefully on August 9 2024, at his home. Herbert was born on February 25, 1950, in Polk County, GA, to his loving parents, Herbert L. Gibson, Sr. and Kathryn Gladden Gibson.
Herbert worked at Waffle House for 34 years as a dedicated cook until his retirement. Herbert established himself as a skilled and reliable member of the team. His passion for creating delicious dishes brought joy to countless customers who frequented the establishment. Herbert was committed to his craft and he took pride in his work every day.
Herbert was a family man through and through. He cherished every moment spent with his loved ones, especially during the holidays when they gathered to create lasting memories together. His warm and welcoming personality made him the heart of family gatherings, always ensuring everyone felt at ease and included. Herbert's great sense of humor brought lightness to any room, and his kindness touched the hearts of all who knew him.
Herbert will be deeply missed by his surviving family members, including his daughter, Amanda Gilbert and her husband Daniel of Rome, GA, his son, David Lee Gibson and his wife Miranda of Rome, GA, his stepson, Travis Adams of Marietta, GA. He is also survived by his brother, Gary Gibson, sisters Sheryl Gibson Knight and her husband Carl, Sherry Gibson Dempsey and her husband Jason, Rita Gibson Hardinger, as well as his grandchildren: David, Courtney, Kenneth, Shyanna, and David, along with 10 great-grandchildren. Additionally, several nieces, nephews, cousins and his fur companion, C.J. mourn his passing. Herbert was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert L. Gibson, Sr. and Kathryn Gladden Gibson, his beloved wife, Carol Gibson, and his brother, Ben Gibson.
A memorial service for Mr. Gibson will be held on Sunday afternoon, August 18, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Rome Seventh-day Adventist Church with Pastor Paul A. Samuel officiating. Inurnment will follow in the family plot in Forney, AL. The family will accept flowers or respectfully asks that donations be made to Floyd County P.A.W.S. in loving memory of Herbert as it was a charity near and dear to his heart.
