Harvey Leroy Minshew, Jr., known affectionately as Leroy, passed away on August 19, 2023, at his residence surrounded by his family. He was born on May 23, 1950, in Rome, GA, to Harvey Leroy Minshew, Sr. and Betty Saul Minshew.
Leroy dedicated the majority of his career to the Southern Company, Georgia Power. From 1970 until his retirement in 2012, he held various positions within the company, including Transmission Supervisor. Additionally, Leroy served as the President of the Georgia Power Credit Union for an impressive span of 23 years.
Outside of his professional life, Leroy was a devoted family man who cherished every moment spent with his loved ones. He fostered a deep love for sports and became a coach for many of his children's teams throughout the years. He and a group of his closest friends enjoyed annual camping trips during the fall season for over four decades. In the springtime, Leroy embarked on golfing trips alongside his group of golfing buddies. Leroy's generosity was renowned among those who knew him best. His selflessness and kind-hearted nature touched countless lives within his community. He was a regular blood donor with special cause. His blood was able to be transfused to infants because of the lack of an antibody that is fatal to young ones. Leroy found joy in several hobbies and interests. Golfing, fishing, and camping were among his favorite pastimes. Later in his life, he thoroughly enjoyed tailgating and watching Georgia football with his wife and the Farmers.
Leroy is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Betsy Powell Minshew of Rome, GA; son, Mark Minshew and his wife Erika of Rome; daughter, Teresa Hinrichs of Rome; sister, Brenda Baxter and her husband Vann of Rome; and his adoring grandchildren, Savanah and Evan James Minshew of Rome, as well as Jordan Leroy Hinrichs and his wife Tiffanie of MO, and Donovan James Hinrichs of MO.
A visitation will be held to honor Leroy's life on August 23, 2023, at Salmon Funeral Home. The visitation will begin at 6:00 PM and conclude at 8:00 PM.
Leroy's impact on the lives of those around him was immeasurable. He leaves behind a legacy of compassion, generosity, and resilience. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society: https://engage.mymsaa.org/give to continue Leroy's tradition of giving back to the community.
