Harvey Lee Green, age 76, of 457 and 469 Bells Ferry Road, Rome, GA, died Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at the residence.
A native of Floyd County, Mr. Green was born on July 24, 1933, the son of the late Albert Murphy Green and Mary Emma Borden Green. He had lived all his life in Rome and Floyd County and was a Veteran of the Korean War, having served in the United States Army. Mr. Green was a Charter Member of the Korean War Veterans Association of Rome. He was also a member of the Oostanaula United Methodist Church where he served on the Building Committee and the Cemetery Committee. Mr. Green was also a Master Mason with the Oostanaula Masonic Lodge #113 F&AM. Prior to retirement he was associated with the US Post Office for over 32 years, retiring in January of 1990. Following retirement he was associated with Ken's Auto Sales and Jack's Auto Sales. Mr. Green was an avid sports fan who received a football scholarship to the University of South Carolina. He enjoyed coaching and teaching youth as he served with several youth organizations including the Boys Club of Rome where he coached several different sporting teams. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Timothy Scott Green, and two brothers, Leonard and Bryant Green.
Mr. Green is survived by his wife, Patty Duncan Green, to whom he was married March 22, 1958; a daughter and son-in-law, Tanya Paige and Donald Dodd of Rome; 2 sons and a daughter-in-law, Terry Lee and Dot Green of Centre AL, and Michael Todd Green of Rome; 10 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Emogene Ivey of Woodstock, GA. and Avanell Schuler of Greer, S.C.; 1 brother, Carl Green of Lindale, Ga. A host of nieces and nephews also survive.
A memorial service for Mr. Green will be held on Sunday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. in the Oostanaula United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall (located 4 miles out Bells Ferry RD) with Rev. Roger McDonald officiating.
