Glenda Gail Burkhalter, age 70, of Rome, passed away on, Tuesday, February 28, 2017, in a local healthcare facility.
Glenda was born on August 3, 1946, in Duncan, OK, a daughter of the late Quintin and Willa Mae Sadler Baker. She had been resident of Rome and Floyd County since the early 1980's, moving here from Panama City, FL. Glenda had been associated with Mondo Bakery for a number of years, working as a line operator. She was an avid NASCAR fan (Tony Stewart), an Alabama Crimson Tide fan, a fan of the Atlanta Braves and loved fishing. In addition to her parents, Glenda was preceded in death by her husband, Wayland Burkhalter, on September 16, 2016, whom she married on December 28, 1984. Also preceding her in death were two sisters, Judy and Patsy Baker.
Glenda is survived by two sons, David Winston and Dennis Winston, both of Panama City; three step-sons and their wives, Carl and Gail Burkhalter of Canton, GA, Earl and Carisa Burkhalter of Rome, and Tom and Deana Burkhalter of Lindale, GA; four sisters, Carolyn Baker, Phyllis (William) Hanson, Cookie (Chad) Carley, and Karan Lahman; three brothers, Ronnie Barker, Doug (Audra) Baker and Dennis Baker. Eighteen grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, March 3, 2017, in the Carl Sidwell Chapel of the Salmon Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Debra Walters officiating. Interment will follow in Floyd Memory Gardens.
Glenda will remain in the Salmon Funeral Home where the family will receive friends on Friday from 12:00 PM until the funeral hour.
Pallbearers are asked to meet at the funeral home on Friday by 1:30 p.m. and include Jeremy Winston, Joey Jackson, Eric Burkhalter and Josh Burkhalter.
