Mr. Glen Lewis Freeman, age 79, of Kingston, GA, passed away Saturday morning, March 14, 2020, at his residence.
A native of Rome, GA, Mr. Freeman was born November 1, 1940, a son of the late Lewis Randolph Freeman and Louise Dudley Freeman. He was an active member of Dykes Creek Baptist Church where he was a member of the Rev. Willard Willis Memorial Sunday School Class. Mr. Freeman was employed with Bagby Transfer Company for over 42 years, retiring in 2003. In his early years he loved playing horseshoes and softball. In later years Mr. Freeman enjoyed word searches, collecting cartoon drawings and coloring. He loved sports and was an avid Atlanta Braves and Falcons fan.
Mr. Freeman is survived by his loving wife, Yvonne Roberts Freeman, whom he married March 23, 1962; three daughters and son-in-law, Debra Freeman of Plainville, GA, Greta Barrett, and Cristal and Tad Vaughn, all of Kingston; one son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Dudley Darand and Suk Freeman of Rome; grandchildren, Major Eli (Melanie) Freeman of Maxwell AFB, Montgomery, AL, Robert Barrett of Centre, AL, David Barrett of Kingston, Jacob Barrett of Kingston, McKinley Vaughn of Kingston, Shannon (Seth) Temples of Camp Lejeune, NC, and Tiffany Freeman of Indianapolis, IN; two sisters, Janie (Donald) Stoner of Kingston, and Virginia Phinazee of Rome; one brother, Jimmy "Bo" Freeman of Centre.
Funeral services for Mr. Freeman will be held on Monday evening, March 16, 2020, at 6:00 p.m. at Dykes Creek Baptist Church with Pastor Mikel Garrett, Rev. Jerry Dudley and Mr. David Barrett officiating. Inurnment will follow at a later date at Mount Alto Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mr. Freemans family will receive friends at Dykes Creek Baptist Church Monday afternoon from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m.
Pallbearers are asked to meet at the church on Monday by 5:30 p.m. and include Eli Freeman, Jacob Barrett, McKinley Vaughn, Jimmy "Fry" Cross, Larry Fincher, David Akins. Honorary pallbearers will include Monty Wright, Robert Barrett, Thomas Reece and members of Rev. Willis Memorial Sunday School Class.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Upward Basketball, c/o Dykes Creek Baptist Church, 46 Dykes Creek Church Road, Rome, GA 30161.
