George William 'Billy' Long, Jr.

Mr. George William "Billy" Long, Jr. age 79 of Buttrum Road, Adairsville passed away on  Tuesday February

28, 2023 following a brief Illness.

Mr. Long was born September 18, 1943, in Rome, Georgia son of the late George William Long,

Sr. and Pauline Shaw Long. Mr. Long was a Christian and member of North Rome Church of God

where he served as Church Clerk for a number of years. He was a graduate of Berry College and

a veteran, having served with the United States Air Force during the Vietnam Conflict. Until his

retirement Mr. Long had been employed with the United States Postal Service in Gordon

County.

In addition to his parents Mr. Long was preceded in death by the love of his life, Sheila Kelley

Long on August 17, 1997 and by a brother-in-law Michael Kelley in 2019.

Survivors include: four sons and daughters-in-law, Ricky Long (Melissa), Adairsville, GA; Jason

Long (Neva), Aragon, GA; Andrew Long (Danielle) Tifton, GA; and Michael Long (Lindsey), Rome,

GA; seven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, sister and brother-in-law, Judy Elaine Long

Richards (Marvin); two brothers and sisters in law, Charles Kelley (Brenda), Gary Kelley

(Tammy)and sister-in-law Donna Kelley. A number of nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

The family will receive friends on Saturday March 4, 2023 at Salmon Funeral Home from 12:00 PM 

until 2:00. A Graveside Service for Mr. Long will follow at 2:30 PM in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens with Billy's son,

Andrew Long delivering the eulogy.
