George Eugene Russell

George E. Russell, age 71, of the Horseleg Creek Road, Rome, passed away Saturday night, July 21, 2012 at a Rome hospital.

A native of Floyd County, Mr. Russell was born on July 20, 1941, the son of the late George N. and Lillian R. Griffin Russell. He had spent the greater part of his life in Floyd County and was a 1959 graduate of Coosa High School. Mr. Russell served in the National Guard and was a member of the Brethren Church. Prior to his retirement he was associated with General Electric of Rome for over 30 years. Mr. Russell was a member of the Coosa Masonic Lodge #622 F&AM and was a member of the Kraftsman Club. He was preceded in death by a brother, Allard Russell in 1989.

Mr. Russell is survived by a daughter, Tammy Russell of Rome; a son, Tommie Russell of Rome; 5 grandchildren, Tommie Russell, Jr., Ashley Orange, Casey Russell, Jordon Williams and Cody Wilson; 6 great-grandchildren; the mother of his children, Sandra Powell of Cumming, GA.; a sister, Frances Russell Shepard and her husband, Jimmy, of Rome; a brother, David Russell and his wife, Kathy, of Rome; a sister-in-law, Ann Russell of Rome. A number of nieces and nephews also survive.

A Celebration of the Life of George E. Russell will be held on Wednesday evening, July 25, 2012 at 7:00 o'clock from the Parkview Chapel of Fred Talley's Funeral Home with the Rev. Max Carver officiating.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening, July 25, 2012 from 6:00 until 7:00 o'clock. At other hours they will be at the residence on Horseleg Creek Road.
