Gary Tyler "Ty" York, age 38 of 1267 East Hermitage Road, Rome, passed away on Friday afternoon, December 20, 2013 at a Rome hospital.
A native of Rome, Ty was born on September 5, 1975, the son of Gary and Teresa Hamilton York. Ty had spent most of his life in Rome and was a 1994 graduate of Model High School. He loved golf and for a number of years was the Assistant Golf Superintendent at Meadow Lakes Golf Course in Cedartown. Following that he was the Golf Superintendent at Tally Mountain Golf Course in Tallapoosa, GA. Ty also was an avid baseball fan and played baseball while in high school where he was named Player of the Year. He also played baseball in college at West Georgia College and Sneed State College. Ty was of the Baptist faith and at the time of his death was a student at Georgia Northwestern Technical College.
Survivors include a daughter Clara York of Rome; his parents, Gary and Teresa York of Rome; his maternal grandparents, Bill and Clara "Corine" Hamilton of Rome. An uncle and aunt, Mike and Sue Hamilton of Rome also survive.
A Celebration of Life for Ty York will be held on Monday afternoon, December 23, 2013, at 1:00 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church with Dr. Gary Graves officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot of Morning View Cemetery.
The family will receive friends this (Sunday) afternoon, December 22, 2013 from 5:00 until 7:00 o'clock at Calvary Baptist Church, 101 Broadus Road, Rome, GA 30161. At other hours they will be at the residence of his parents.
In lieu of flowers please make memorial contributions to an educational fund for Ty's daughter, Clara York. Memorial contributions will be greatly appreciated and may be mailed to The Clara York Educational Fund, c/o River City Bank, 228 North Second Avenue SW, Rome Georgia 30165.
Pallbearers are asked to meet at the church on Monday by 12:30 p.m. and include Mike Hamilton, Steve Davis, Jason Blanton, Albert Watters, Seth Laney, Kyle Rush, Chris Eads, Mark White, Ben Winkleman, Chad Gordon and Will Pinson.
