Franklin Eugene Higgins

Franklin Higgins, age 79, of #24 Westwood Circle, West Rome, passed away early Monday morning, September 23, 2013 at his residence.
A native of Rome, Franklin was born on December 8, 1933, the son of the late Henry Grady Higgins and the late Nettie Brewer Higgins. He attended Alto Park School and was of the Baptist Faith. Franklin was a veteran of the Korean War having served in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged on July 31, 1956. For a period of time Franklin was associated with General Electric of Rome, the Georgia Department of Transportation and prior to his retirement was associated with Georgia Power. Franklin was a very active and long time member of Shanklin-Attaway Post #5 American Legion where he served twice (July 1998 - July 2000) as Commander. He was a long time member of the 40 & 8 and was a long time member of Shanklin-Attaway Post #5 Honor Guard. Franklin served as a Colonel in the Civil Air Patrol where he served as a Pilot and was a member of the Sgt. Billy Freeman Korean War Veterans Post #1. Franklin was preceded in death by 3 sisters and 1 brother.

Survivors include his wife, Ann Banister Higgins to whom he was married in August 1965; 1 brother, Grady Higgins of Rome; a sister-in-law, Ruth LeCroy of Gaylesville, Ala. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Franklin Higgins will be held on Thursday afternoon, September 26, 2013 at 2 o'clock in the Parkview Chapel of Fred Talley's Funeral Home with Reverend Horace Stewart officiating with music by Fred Talley. Interment to follow in the family lot of Oaknoll Memorial Gardens with Shanklin-Attaway Post #5 Honor Guard conducting military graveside rites.

Franklin will remain at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel where the family will receive friends this (Wednesday) evening from 6 until 8 o'clock. At other hours the family will be at the residence.

Members from Shanklin-Attaway Post #5 American Legion Honor Guard will serve as active pallbearers.
