Fay Sims

Mrs. Fay Sims, age 71, of Rome, passed away Monday morning, January 30, 2017, at her residence following a lengthy illness.

A native of Rome and Floyd County, Fay was born on July 3, 1945, the daughter of the late J.C. Chambers and Katherine Phillips Chambers. She had been a resident of Rome and Floyd all her life and was a housewife, loving mother and grandmother who adored her children and grandchildren. Fay was a member of the North Rome Church of God where she had served as a Sunday School teacher, worked with the youth and was instrumental in getting several programs for youth started. She was devoted to her church and her family and loved to get away with her husband, Frank, to their mountain vacation home. In addition to her parents, Fay was preceded in death by two sisters, Judy Chambers Heyman and Syretta Blackwell.

Fay is survived by her husband of over 52 years, Frank Sims, whom she married on July 25, 1964; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jeffrey and Carrie Sims, and Chris and Shonda Sims; grandchildren Erica (Michael) Cawood, Matthew Sims, Braxton Sims and Briley Sims; one great-grandson, Nathan Cawood; sister, Kay (Lamar) Studdard; brother, Buddy Chambers; brother-in-law, Charles Heyman. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 2, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carl Sidwell Chapel of the Salmon Funeral Home with Rev. Bert Brooks and Fay's nephew, Cary Studdard officiating. Interment will follow in the Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.

Fay will remain at the Salmon Funeral Home where the family will receive friends on Thursday from 12:00 noon until the funeral hour.

Pallbearers are asked to meet at the funeral home on Thursday by 1:30 p.m. and include Gary Daniels, Jeff Temples, Steve Graves, Michael Cawood, Mattew Sims and Braxton Sims.
