Evelyn Josephine Griffin

. Evelyn Josephine Griffin, age 69, of #2415 Calhoun Road NE, Rome, died Tuesday, June 8, 2010, in a local hospital.

Mrs. Griffin was born in Haralson County, GA, on July 11, 1940, the daughter of the late Eunice Hobbs and Charles Wesley Haney. She had been a resident of Rome and Floyd County since 1970, moving here from Marietta, GA. Mrs. Griffin for a number of years was associated with Integrated Products but in recent years was a housewife and homemaker. She was a member of the Rome Baptist Temple for many years. Mrs. Griffin had a servants heart and enjoyed being with family, working with her church and traveling. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 3 brothers and 1 sister.

Mrs. Griffin is survived by her husband, Larry N. Griffin, Jr., to whom she was married on December 15, 1973; two daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and William Brand of Cartersville, GA, and Patsy and Dr. Eric Hixson of Mentor, OH; two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Melissa Prater, and Kenneth and Rhonda Griffin, all of Rome; 8 grandchildren, Shane Ledbetter, Julie Umbarger, Michael Freeman, Amy Jacks, Kendra Griffin, Jesse Griffin, Morrigan Griffin and Seth Hixson. Nine great-grandchildren and a sister, Sue Tucker of Cedartown also survive.

Funeral services for Mrs. Griffin will be held on Friday morning, June 11, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in the Rome Baptist Temple with Dr. Billy Goolsby and Rev. Keith Shoemaker officiating. Interment will follow in the Floyd Memory Gardens.

Mrs. Griffin will remain at the Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel Funeral Home where the family will receive friends this (Thursday) evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. At other hours they will be at the residence.

Pallbearers are asked to meet at the church on Friday by 10:30 a.m. and include Bill Brand, Dr. Eric Hixson, Phil Tilley, Ron Hobgood, Shane Ledbetter and Jesse Griffin.
