Ellen Richards

Ellen McKinney Richards, age 97, of West Rome, died Wednesday morning, November 4th, 2009 at the residence.
A native of Commerce, Georgia, Mrs. Richards was born on April 20th, 1912, the daughter of the late William H. and Nora Lee Grier McKinney. She had spent the greater part of her life in Rome, was a longtime member of Garden Lakes Baptist Church and was a member of the J.O.Y. Sunday School Class. Prior to her retirement, Mrs. Richards served as a License Practical Nurse at Battey State Hospital in Rome. Mrs. Richards was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Monita McKinney and Dorothy Hill, by 2 brothers, Bill and Buck McKinney. Mrs. Richards was married on March 22nd, 1947 to Glenn Henry Richards who preceded her in death in January 1997.
Survivors include 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Cynthia and Gary Henderson of Lindale and Linda and Ronnie Casteel of Rome; 5 grandchildren, John Casteel, Jr., Darren and David Nicholson, Patrick and Mary Nixon, several great-grandchildren, 1 sister, Mildred McKinney of Gwinnett, GA. Nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Ellen McKinney Richards will be held on Friday afternoon, November 6th, 2009 at 1 o'clock from the Parkview Chapel of Fred Talley's Funeral Home with the Rev. Alan Fuller and Dr. Richard Kremer officiating with interment to follow in the family lot of Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Richards will remain at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel where the family will receive friends on Friday from 11 a.m. until 1 o'clock. At other hours they will be at their respective homes.
Active pallbearers include, John Casteel, Jr., Darren and David Nicholson, Patrick Nixon and Daniel Nicholson.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.
