Eleanor Elizabeth Morgan Payne
Born June 28, 1924 in Cedartown, Georgia and passed away August 21, 2015 at Adams Place in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. She was the daughter of Mary Elizabeth Pierce Morgan and Julius Jerome Morgan and was born in Cedartown, Georgia. Eleanor married Mather McCormick Payne on February 4, 1940. She was predeceased by her husband of 39 years, Mather Payne. She is survived by; three Children: Morgan (Cindy) Payne, Kenyon (Forrestine) Payne, Elissa (Steve) Christiansen; nine grandchildren: Chris (Christy) Payne, Kevin (Melissa) Christiansen, Andrew (Stacy) Payne, Chad (Jill) Christiansen, Jason Payne, Matthew (Clare) Payne, Stephanie (Tom) Baldwin, Lauren (Mark) Brewster, Jennifer (Joe) Duffy; twenty great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be at 11:00 Wednesday August 26, 2015, with Celebration of Life/ Funeral 12:00 at Fred Talley Parkview Chapel Funeral Home, Rome Georgia. Burial will be immediately following the services at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be her grandsons. Floyd Roebuck is officiating with Pat Holland as vocalist accompanied by daughter-in-law, Forrestine Payne.

In Lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Nursing Scholarship Fund at Floyd Medical Center Volunteer Department P.O. Box 2333 Rome, GA 30162.

Eleanor was born in Cedartown, Georgia, and moved to Rome when she was eleven years old. In the 9th grade she was asked to be the first drum majorette of the Rome High School marching band. After marching down Broad Street on a cold day she went up to the studios of WRGA and met a handsome radio announcer, Mather Payne. They started dating and under a harvest moon in October of 1939 Mather asked her to be his bride. They married February 4, 1940. Mather and Eleanor remained happily married until his death on August 17, 1979. Eleanor dedicated her life to her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Eleanor Payne volunteered a Pink Lady at Floyd Hospital for 40 years. She was the Director of the Cradle Roll Department at First Baptist Church in Rome, Georgia, for over 25 years. She was also a member of the Beta Sigma Phi National Sorority for over 50 years. When Eleanor was not spending time with family, friends, or volunteering, she spent time expanding her many talents and interest. Eleanor wrote beautiful poems about her family and closest friends. She was an excellent seamstress and after Mather died she began to sketch and paint. She sketched charcoal pictures of her grandchildren and her favorite oil paintings were of her "butterfly collections".

In 2004 Eleanor moved to Murfreesboro, Tennessee, where she lived for the rest her life.
