Donald G. Tex Mccoy

Donald G. "Tex" McCoy, age 75 of #9 Indian Trace, SE, Rome, died Saturday morning, May 2nd, 2009 at the residence.
A native of San Antonio, Texas, Mr. McCoy was born on March 19th, 1934, the son of the late George A. McCoy and the late Arlie Lampman McCoy Stark. Mr. McCoy moved to Rome in 1953 from Washington D.C. where for the next 34 years was involved in law enforcement having been associated with the Rome Police Department, Floyd County Police Department and the Floyd County Sheriff's Department. From 1989 until his retirement in 1999, Mr. McCoy was associated with the Department of Corrections. He was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church of Rome and a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. Mr. McCoy was a veteran of the United States Army having served in the Korean War and was a member of Shanklin-Attaway Post #5 American Legion.
Survivors include his wife, Jackie McCoy to whom he was married on February 3rd, 1953; 1 daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Hugh Burnes of Rome; 2 sons and a daughter-in-law, Patrick McCoy of Rome and Chris and Maria McCoy of Seattle, Washington; 3 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren also survive as do a sister, Sally Reid of Kansas; 1 brother, Patrick Stark of Kansas City, Kansas.
A funeral Mass for Donald G. "Tex" McCoy will be held this (Monday) afternoon, May 4th, 2009 at 2 o'clock at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father James Miceli officiating. Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.
Members of The Knights of Columbus will serve as active pallbearers.
The family will receive friends this afternoon at the St. Mary's Catholic Church from 1 until 2 o'clock. At other hours they will be at the residence.
