Donald E. "Don" Doggett, age 60, of 43 Tency Lane, NE, Rome, GA. died Monday morning, February 18th, 2008 at his home in Rome.
A native of Fulton County, Georgia, Mr. Doggett was born on March 29th, 1947, the son of Ivor Copeland Doggett and the late Augustus Durward Doggett. He had been a resident of Rome since 1986 moving to Rome from Atlanta. Don was a Vietnam veteran having served as an E-5 in the United States Army. Don was a well known musician and vocalist and while a resident of Atlanta he was a member and bass player for singer Tommy Row, The Jesse Band, The Ron Kimball Band and was a band member of the nationally known group Sam the Sham and The Pharaohs. Don was a well known Rome musician and for a period of time was a business owner in the Cotton Block of Rome. At the time of his death Don was associated with Lookout Mountain Community Services.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Ann "Patty" Massey Doggett to whom he was married on April 7th, 1990, his mother, Ivor C. Doggett of Social Circle, Ga.; 1 sister, Dale Anderson of Temple, GA.; 3 brothers, Kenneth Doggett of Rutledge, Ga., Sammy Crowe and Greyson Whiteside both of Rome; 1 brother-in-law, Michael K. Massey of Seattle, Washington. Nieces and nephews also survive.
There will be a gathering of Don's family and friends on Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel Funeral Home, Rome, Georgia (706-291-9472) to celebrate the life and times of Don.
