Daniel V. "Dan" Garrett age 82, of Rome, passed away on Nov. 29, 2015. He was a graduate of Coosa High School Class of 1950. He was a lifelong member of Pisgah Baptist Church where he was also a member of the Couples Sunday School Class and Men's Breakfast Club. Dan was also a member of the Kiwanis Club and retired from O'Neill Manufacturing where he worked for over 50 years. Mr. Garrett was an avid golfer and a member of Stonebridge Golf Club, Past President of Cartersville Country Club, Callier Springs Country Club where he was a past officer also. He also loved fishing, hunting and outdoors activities all of his life.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years Ruby Barkley Garrett and parents Ruby Eugena and Earnest Garrett.
Dan is survived by his wife Mary Jeanette Garrett; daughter, Debby (Ames) Ressa; son, Michael Varnell (Jeannie) Garrett; sister, Lynn (Jim) Howell; two brothers, Hoyt Lavonne Garrett, Larry Neal (Joanne) Garrett; two grandchildren, Eric Garrett and Patrick Garrett; three great grandchildren, Hunter Garrett, Hannah Garrett, Jacob Garrett; two great-great grandchildren, Lane Garrett and Caroline Garrett; several nieces and nephews and other loving family members.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2015 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel Funeral Home. The funeral service will be on Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2015 at 11:00 am at the funeral home with burial to follow at Oaknoll Memorial Garden. Dr. Jerry Dudley will be officiating. Pallbearers will be Eric Garrett, Hunter Garrett, Brian McKinney, Johnny Walker, Bruce Perry, Wayne Randall. The honorary pallbearers will be from the men from the Couples Sunday School Class, Clay Anderson, Paul Jackson, Aubra Davis, Wes Riley, Jim Howell, Bill Loveless, Kenny FIncher and Billy McKinney. The family is accepting flowers or memorials may be made to Pisgah Baptist Church.
