Dallas Marshall Dempsey

Dallas Marshall Dempsey, age 69, of the Dempsey Road, NE, Rome passed away on Friday evening, October 28th, 2011 at a Rome hospital following a very brief illness.

A native of Floyd County, Mr. Dempsey was born on September 9th, 1942, the son of the late Dallas W. Dempsey and the late Martha Jane Boggs Dempsey. Marshall was a 1960 graduate of Model High School and attended Jacksonville State University. He was a member of the Georgia Team Roping Association and the U.S.T.R.C.A. Prior to his retirement, he was associated with General Electric of Rome for more than 30 years as a welder. Marshall was an avid team roper and leaves many friends who shared his love of the sport. He was preceded in death by his father in 1999 and preceded in death by his mother in 2007.

Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Leah Anita "Lucy" Dempsey; 2 daughters, Nadee Bryant and her husband, Steve of Rome, Barbara Jane "B.J." Dempsey and her husband, Steve of Rome; a son, Brian H. Dempsey and his wife, Sherry of Kingston; 5 grandchildren, Lindsey Kerce (Cody), Kaley Bryant, Madilyn Smith, Keith Dempsey (Sara) and Heather Dempsey; 1 great-grandchild, Kaden Lackey; 2 sisters, Denise Hutchens and her husband, Danny of Rome and Ann Thompson and her husband, Greg of Calhoun. Nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral service for Dallas Marshall Dempsey will be held on Tuesday afternoon, November 1st, 2011 at 2 o'clock from the graveside of Morning View Cemetery with the Rev. Ronnie Millican officiating. Interment will follow in the Morning View Cemetery.

The following will serve as active pallbearers, Dewayne Rogers, Blake Pettis, Chris Sprayberry, JR Van Gurp, Rodney Acker, Mitchel Martin, Russ Covington and Travis Holsomback. Honorary pallbearers include, Clifford Timms, Terry Willoughby and Harry Lusk. Active and honorary pallbearers are requested to meet at the graveside on Tuesday afternoon by 1:25 p.m.

Mr. Dempsey will remain at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel where the family will receive friends this (Monday) evening beginning at 6 o'clock. At other hours the family will be at the home of the son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Sherry Dempsey, at #115 Potts Road, Kingston.
