Clayton A. Crowe, age 83, of #8 Maplewood Square, Rome, GA. died Friday night, August 6th, 2010 in a Rome hospital.

A native of DeKalb County, Ala., Mr. Crowe was born on September 8th, 1926, the son of the late Forest A. and Edna Elizabeth Cordell Crowe. He had been a resident of Rome since 1950 and was a retired truck driver. Mr. Crowe was a member of the New Antioch Baptist Church at Shannon where he was a member of the Victor Sunday School Class. Mr. Crowe was an ordained Deacon and visited and spoke at nursing homes in Rome for many years. He was an active 50 year member of the East Floyd Masonic Lodge #728 F&AM and was a member of the Low 12 Club. Mr. Crowe was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was preceded in death by a sister, Doris Cronan in July 2010.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Mary E. Latham Crowe to whom he was married on February 25th, 1945; 1 son Dr. Roy Crowe and his wife, Karen of Colorado Springs, Colorado; 4 grandchildren, Rev. Brent Crowe of Orlando, FL., Rev. Matt Crowe of Colorado Springs, CO., Brooke Michelle Pogue and Kari Rebekka
Seher both of Texas; 4 great-grandchildren also survive as do 3 sisters, Beluah Hoyle of Rossville, GA., Elosie Morris of Chattanooga, TN. and Betty Carpenter of Rosedale, GA.; 1 brother, Arthur Crowe and his wife, Barbara of Rome, GA. Nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Clayton A. Crowe will be held on Tuesday morning, August 10th, 2010 at 11 o'clock at the New Antioch Baptist Church at Shannon with the Rev. Tony Cargle and Mr. Crowe's son, Dr. Roy Crowe officiating with interment to follow in East View Cemetery. Mr. Crowe will lie-in-state at the church on Tuesday morning from 10 until 11 o'clock.

The following Deacons from New Antioch Baptist Church will serve as active pallbearers, Rodney Leonard, Jackie Ellis, Felton Crossland, Ray Billy Bishop, Glen Davis, Hobert Keith and Tracy Hardy. Members of East Floyd Masonic Lodge #728 F&AM will serve as honorary pallbearers. Active and honorary pallbearers are requested to meet at the church on Tuesday morning by 10:15 a.m.

Mr. Crowe will remain at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel where the family will receive friends this (Monday) evening from 5:30 until 8 o'clock. At other hours they will be at the residence.
