Charles Edward Earle, Sr. of Rome, passed away July 20, 2013 in a Rome Hospital at the age of eighty three after a brief illness.
Mr. Earle was born on August 2, 1929, in the Everett Springs community of Floyd County to the late Malcolm Landrum Earle and the late Pearl Davis Earle. He had spent the greater part of his life in Rome and Floyd County and was member and Deacon of the Enon Baptist Church where he was a member of the Bible Sunday School Class. Mr. Earle, a Floyd County Educator, was a graduate of Model High School, received his B.S. Degree from the University of Florida at Gainesville and earned his Master's Degree from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. Mr. Earle taught at Model High School and in 1970 he was appointed Assistant Director at Coosa Valley Technical Institute in Rome which is now Georgia Northwestern Technical College and was later named President of the institute, now known as Georgia Northwestern Technical College in 1982. He later retired from Coosa Valley, in 1987, to pursue various interest; including travel and many hobbies. In his retirement he was known for his work in stained and leaded glass. Mr. Earle was a well known part of the Shannon Community. For a period of time Mr. Earle had served on the Rome / Floyd County Planning and Development Commission. Mr. Earle dutifully served his country for four years in the United States Air Force while serving one term in the Korean War. After service to the United States Air Force he returned to finish his education. He was preceded in death by a brother, J.D. Earle.
Mr. Earle is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Mary Ann Penn Earle to whom he was married on April 26, 1952; Mr. Earle is survived by his sons: Becky and Charles E. Earle, Jr., Knoxville TN; David P. Earle, Atlanta, GA; Kay M. Earle, Atlanta, GA; Kimberly and Steven M. Earle, Atlanta, GA; along with grandchildren- Elise Earle Dubes, Knoxville, TN; Kathryn Earle Backus, Knoxville, TN; Andrew Earle and Ansley Earle both of Atlanta. He is also survived by two sisters, Edna Earle Whatley and Ruth Earle Talley of Rome. Nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Charles Edward Earle, Sr. will be held on Wednesday morning, July 24, 2013 at 10 o'clock in the Parkview Chapel of Fred Talley's Funeral Home with Reverend Ken Hinkley, Dr. Bill Dempsey and Reverend Hoyt Coker officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot of the East View Cemetery in Adairsville, GA.
Mr. Earle will remain at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel where the family will receive friends on Tuesday evening, July 23, 2013 from 6 until 8 o'clock. At other hours they will be at the residence.
The following will serve as active pallbearers and are requested to meet at the funeral home on Wednesday morning by 9:30 am, Charles Heath, Dow Evans, Dennis Ratliff, Hartwell Nolan, Robert Jones, Dr. David Cox, Dr. Craig McDaniel and Dr. Steve Bradshaw.
