Cecil Paul Stewart, Jr

October 10, 1925 — January 3, 2007

1 Cecil Paul Stewart, Jr., age 81, of 232 B Huffaker Road, Rome, a retired Lieutenant from the Floyd County Sheriff's Department, died Wednesday morning, January 3rd, 2007, at his residence.
A native of Bartow County, Mr. Stewart was born on October 10th, 1925, the son of the late Cecil Paul Stewart, Sr. and the late Mossie Adaline Stephens Stewart. Mr. Stewart was a World War II veteran having served in the U.S Marine Corps, having served on Guadalcanal, Okinawa, Shima, Ryukyu Islands, Guam, Marianas Islands and participated in the occupation of Tsingtao Area. Mr. Stewart was awarded the Purple Heart Medal for wounds received in action on Okinawa Shima, Ryukyu Islands, Japan on April 13th, 1945. Mr. Stewart was a member of the Rome Church of Christ and prior to his retirement in 1990, he served with the Floyd County Sheriff's Department for 21 years having retired as a Lieutenant. He was a member of the Georgia Peace Officers Association and was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Stewart.
Survivors include his wife Flora, 3 sons and a daughter-in-law, Paul and David Stewart of Rome and Mark and Patricia Stewart of Rockmart, GA.; 4 grandchildren, Sarah Elizabeth Stewart, Hannah Catherine Stewart, Crystle Shea Stewart and Erika Cheyenne Stewart, 1 sister, Dee Hinnant of Rome. Nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral service for Cecil Paul Stewart, Jr. will be held on Saturday afternoon, January 6th, 2007 at 2 o'clock from Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel with the Rev. Horace Stewart officiating and Sheriff Tim Burkhalter delivering the eulogy. Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens with military graveside rites provided by the U.S Marine Corps Honor Guard.
Mr. Stewart will remain at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel where the family will receive friends this (Friday) evening from 6 o'clock until 9 o'clock. At other hours they will be at the residence.
Members of the Floyd County Sheriff's Department will serve as active and honorary pallbearers. Area law enforcement personnel will also serve as honorary pallbearers.
