Mr. Cecil M. Carney, age 79, of Sanford, FL, formerly of Rome, GA, died Sunday May 28, 2017, in Florida.
A native of Rome and Floyd County, Cecil was born on March 23, 1938, a son of the late William Madison Carney and Lillie Elizabeth Ely Carney. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and a member of the Covenant Presbyterian Church. He was an Eagle Scout with Troup 30 from Shannon which had a great influence throughout his entire life. Cecil was associated with Integrated Products for a number of years until they closed. He retired from Syntec Industries in 2006. In addition to his parents, Cecil was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Carney.
Cecil is survived by his wife, Betty Vivian Slappy Carney; a son and daughter-in-law, Philip and Jean Carney of Lake Mary, FL; five grandchildren, Thomas Lacaruba, Timothy Lacaruba, Brianna Lacaruba, Madison Carney and William Carney; one great-grandson, Jerome Lacaruba; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles M. and Gwen Carney of Rome, and Adrian and Jan Carney, also of Rome. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Mr. Cecil M. Carney will be held on Friday morning, June 2, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. in the Covenant Presbyterian Church, 1645 Cartersville Highway, Rome, with his Pastor, Rev. Jack Foley officiating. Interment will follow in the Floyd Memory Gardens with the Shanklin-Attaway Post 5 Honor Guard conferring military graveside rites.
The family will receive friends Thursday evening, June 1, 2017, at Salmon Funeral Home from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.
