Bruce Raymond Bourne

Mr. Bruce Bourne, age 78, of the Martha Berry Highway, Rome, passed away early Thursday morning, April 19th, 2012 at a Rome hospital.

A native of Rome, GA., Mr. Bourne was born on September 24th, 1933, the son of the late Raymond Y. and Margaret Clement Bourne. He had spent his entire life in Rome and Floyd County and was a graduate of Rome High School. Mr. Bourne attended the Plainville Independent Methodist Church in Plainville, GA. and prior to his retirement in 1986, he was associated with Inland Container of Rome for 30 years. Mr. Bourne loved sports, fishing and hunting.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Cantrell Bourne to whom he was married on June 10th, 1967; 4 daughters and sons-in-law, Sheila Rickman and her husband, Charles of Lindale, Debra Gilbert and her husband, Rick of Armuchee, Rhonda Fowler and her husband, Tony of Suwanee, GA. and Pamela Cowan and her husband, Jim of Conyers, GA.; 2 sons, Raymond Bourne, Jr. and his wife, Gabriela of Mexico City, Mexico and Tom Brewster of Ringgold, GA.; a special friend, Jo Hill; 7 grandchildren, Brandy Banister, Jeremy Rickman, Rich Gilbert, Lindsay Whitelaw, Jessica Fowler, Meg Wilmesherr and Seth Brewster; 9 great-grandchildren, Brinnon and Preston Banister, Hannah Rickman, Ricky Gilbert, III, Cate Gilbert, David and Rachael Whitelaw, Piper Eckart and Liesl Wilmesherr; a sister, Dorothy Thacker of Rome; a brother, Albert Bourne and his wife, Margaret of Rome. Nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Mr. Bruce Bourne will be held this (Saturday) afternoon, April 21st, 2012 at 2:30 p.m. from the Parkview Chapel of Fred Talley's Funeral Home with the Rev. Bobby Stephens officiating. Entombment will follow in the Chapel Mausoleum at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Bourne will remain at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel where the family will receive friends this (Saturday) afternoon from 1 until 2:30 p.m. At other hours they will be at the home of a daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Rick Gilbert at 107 Nelson Blvd. NW, Armuchee.

The following will serve as active pallbearers, Rich Gilbert, Jeremy Rickman, Ryan Whitelaw, Seth Brewster, Jim Cowan, Matt Wilmesherr, W.C. Dunaway and L.A. Dunaway.
