Bill Ercilio Pompie

Mr. Bill E. Pompie, age 83, of #3624 Everett Springs Road, Armuchee, Georgia died Monday, December 24th, 2007 at Emory Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia.
A native of Otsego, West Virginia, Mr. Pompie was born on August 23rd, 1924, the son of the late Venanzio and Pilomena Faris Pompie. He had been a resident of Floyd County for 6 years moving here from Ocala, Florida and was of the Methodist faith. Mr. Pompie was a World War II veteran having served in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the Marston Masonic Lodge #49 F&AM in Ft. McCoy, Florida, the Low 12 Club, the V.F.W. of Salt Springs, Florida, a member of the Fraternal Order of Police in Miami, Florida and a member of the Northwest Georgia Council of the Boy Scouts of America. For 17 years Mr. Pompie served as a law enforcement officer with the Dade County, Florida Sheriff's Department.
Survivors include his wife, Tony Hearn Pompie to whom he was married on July 18th, 1953; a daughter, Joan Elizabeth Grady of Memphis, Tennessee; 2 sons, Jim Foley of Memphis, Tennessee and Bill Joseph Pompie of Armuchee, Georgia; 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren also survive as do a brother, Virgil Pompie of West Virginia. Nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Mr. Bill E. Pompie will be held on Saturday afternoon, December 29th, 2007 at 3 o'clock at Camp Sidney Dew, 3624 Everett Springs Road, with Tim McIntosh officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church cemetery at Everett Springs with Shanklin-Attaway Post #5 Honor Guard conducting military graveside rites.
The following will serve as active pallbearers, Candler Ginn, Ronnie Simmons, Jimmy Shaheen, Steve Fellows, Rob Stone, Ed Kinney and Juan Perez. The pallbearers are requested to meet at Camp Sidney Dew on Saturday afternoon by 2:30 P.M.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contribution may be made to the Northwest Georgia Council, Boy Scouts of America, P.O. Box 1422, Rome, Georgia 30161.
Mr. Pompie will lie-in-state on Saturday morning from 11 o'clock until the funeral hour at Camp Sidney Dew, 3624 Everett Springs Road, where the family will receive friends from 11 o'clock A.M. until the funeral hour. At other hours they will be at the residence.
