Alford Ernest Reed

Mr. Alford "Earnest" Reed, age 77, of Rome, GA, died Monday evening, May 19, 2014, in a local healthcare facility.

A native of Floyd County, Mr. Reed was born on July 31, 1936, the son of the late David and Bessie Edwards Reed. He had been a resident of Rome and Floyd County all his life and prior to retirement was a textile worker. He was a veteran of the United States Army and enjoyed traveling to the North Georgia mountains and walks with his cat, Scratchy.

Mr. Reed is survived by his goddaughter, Amber Miles of LaGrange, GA; niece, Diane Moore of Marietta, GA; two nephews, Terry Reed of Centre, AL, and Barry Bennett of Rome. Several grand-nieces and grand-nephews also survive.

Mr. Reed will lay in-state in Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel Funeral Home where the family will receive friends Thursday evening, May 22, 2014 from 6 until 8 o'clock.

Funeral services for Mr. Reed will be held on Friday afternoon May 23, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. in the Parkview Chapel of Fred Talley's Funeral Home with Rev. Ray Miles officiating. Interment will follow in the New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery in Rosedale, GA.
